Cyber Fraud Awareness
Cyber fraud occurs when fraudsters manipulate individuals into sharing sensitive personal or financial information.

Phishing & Smishing: Fraudulent emails or SMS messages asking you to click links to update KYC, unblock account, or claim rewards.

Vishing (Phone Call Fraud): Impersonators posing as bank officials, RBI representatives, or tech support asking for sensitive information.

Juice Jacking: Data theft via public USB charging station

Remote Access Fraud: Fraudsters convincing users to download screen-sharing apps (e.g., AnyDesk, TeamViewer) to gain control of your device.
Golden Rule of Banking: Meghalaya Rural Bank officials will NEVER ask for your ATM PIN, UPI PIN, Passwords, Card Number, CVV, or OTP via call, SMS, email, or in person.
Safe Digital Banking Practices

Password & PIN Security: Never share your PINs, passwords, or OTPs with anyone. Change your internet and mobile banking passwords regularly.

Secure Browsing: Always check that the website URL starts with https:// and features a lock icon before logging in. Only access banking services through our official portal.

App Downloads: Download the official MRB Mobile Banking App only from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Avoid installing apps via unknown link downloads (APKs).

Public Wi-Fi: Avoid conducting financial transactions or accessing mobile banking over unsecured public Wi-Fi networks.

Device Protection: Keep your phone and computer operating systems updated with the latest security patches and antivirus software.
Customer Protection Policy for Electronic Banking Transactions (EBTs)
In accordance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, MRB offers limited customer liability in cases of unauthorized electronic transactions.

Zero Liability: Applies when an unauthorized transaction occurs due to third-party breach/system deficiency where neither the bank nor the customer is at fault, provided the customer notifies the bank within 3 working days of receiving the communication.

Limited Liability: If the delay in reporting is between 4 to 7 working days, the customer’s liability is capped according to RBI guidelines depending on the account type.

Full Liability: The customer bears full liability in cases where loss is due to customer negligence (e.g., voluntary sharing of PIN, OTP, or passwords) until the unauthorized transaction is reported to the bank.

Complaint Resolution Timelines
MRB is committed to swift resolution of unauthorized electronic transaction complaints:

Shadow Credit (Provisional Restitution): The bank will credit the amount involved in the unauthorized transaction to the customer’s account within 10 working days from the date of notification.

Final Resolution: Complaints regarding unauthorized electronic banking transactions will be resolved within a maximum period of 90 days from the date of receipt of the complaint.
